Black Friday, Cyber Monday... Help Launch Giving Tuesday

On Tuesday November 27, 2012, charities, families, businesses and individuals are coming together to transform the way people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season.
 
It’s a simple idea. Find a way for your family, your community, your company or your organization to join in acts of giving. Tell everyone you can about what you are doing and why it matters. Join a national celebration of our great tradition of generosity.
And together we’ll create ways to give more, give better and give smarter.
 
 
I love this idea.  Take the purchasing power of the holidays and turn it to the organizations in our community that make a difference in people's lives all year.  Many people do volunteer and donate during the holidays already, so this serves as a commencement or framework to centralize and celebrate the efforts. 
 
The website provides great ideas for individual and businesses to get involved.  You can actually give on Giving Tuesday or use that day to make your commitment to giving during the holidays.

  • Look for BVU's Holiday Guide coming soon!  There will be a list of many holiday-related volunteer opportunities that you and your family or co-workers can join in with.

Donating
  • For local giving in Baltimore, visit Give Corps.  Find a project that moves you, give online, and get a "goodie"/great deal from  local merchant to reward your generosity.  That "goodie" can be used to knock a holiday gift right off your list!  See how it comes full circle?  Pretty cool.

“Those shoes are cute! They look comfortable too!”  I hear that often. Well, it is not a coincidence. We all work hard. We need to be comfortable and like how we look. Leaders: Talking about Racism & Inequity with Your Team

“I don’t believe in mixing politics with work.” I heard that statement from a leader as a reason to not acknowledge the Black Lives Matter movement and current protests with their team.  I can imagine that this person, a white person, is a good leader in other ways, but they missed an important opportunity to show that they care and to say "I see you" to the people of color on their team and those they serve. With the murders of Black people, the injustices and the protests to combat them, it is an emotional time.
